Mixing Old and New: Thanksgiving Table

It's not too early to start thinking about Thanksgiving!  Last year I posted about my Thanksgiving table, where I used an inexpensive ikat fabric to make a modern tablecloth.  Using the same china pattern, I made some changes for this year's table.  I love mixing something modern like the tablecloth with antique and vintage tabletop pieces.  My china, silver, crystal, and centerpieces are all antique and vintage, but placing them atop a modern tablecloth and gold chargers keeps the table fresh and modern.

The tablecloth fabric is a remnant of orange Alan Campbell fabric.  You only need 3-4 yards to make a standard rectangular tablecloth.  Just hem the edges (or use stitch witchery), and you have a modern tablecloth in just a few minutes.

I love using seasonal flowers from my yard for a centerpiece.  For this centerpiece, I used gardenias from my yard.  They smell wonderful, and the simple white and green colors don't compete with the vibrant pattern of the tablecloth.  I placed them in this fabulous brass koi compote centerpiece, which adds height to the table and creates a focal point. 

On each side of the centerpiece I placed a turquoise and gold art deco vase.  Then I added a pair of brass peacocks.  Warm brass is the perfect accessory for a Thanksgiving table. 

The china is my grandmother's pattern by Spode- I love the modern Greek key detailing as well as the turquoise, orange, and brown colors.  It works well with the Gorham Etruscan silver, which also has Greek key detailing.

I used English bone china flower place card holders.  While I have waterford crystal from our wedding, I recently found this set of etched crystal glasses trimmed in gold, and I am in love.  It is so delicate yet is etched with a modern chain pattern.
