Hunting for fun pieces of furniture and accessories is one of my favorite things to do when traveling. It's nice to find some new spots to "dig," and I always seem to find more than I find at home. Of course, when our family of four plus everything we need for a week is piled into one car, it just isn't possible to buy on vacation. But I still love to look.
The beach is a great place to check out re-sale stores. People don't seem to re-decorate their beach houses as frequently as regular houses, so you can find some great vintage pieces from the 1960's and 1970's in re-sale stores at the beach, whereas re-sale stores at home are full of 1980's and 1990's junk that I swear I will never like. (Did people say that about the 1960's and 1970's?). There were about 8 re-sale stores within a couple miles of each other not too far from our beach house, so I decided to check them out.
Here are some highlights: (and now looking at the pictures again, I am kicking myself for not buying everything!)
Pair of Burled Veneer Moroccan Mirrors
Faux Bamboo Nightstand
Patterned Seagrass End Table
Brass Pelican Bookends
Faux Bamboo Breakfront that had been re-finished with some hideous "distressed shabby chic" finish
Chippendale Planter Box
Large Brass Tole Birdcage
Macrame Flamingo
Faux Bamboo King Size Headboard
Trio of Cast-Iron Mermaids
Oxidized Copper Headboard with fabulous lines
Yellow Campaign Nighstand
Mid Century End Table
Mid Century Dresser (exactly what I have been looking for for my tv downstairs)
and the matching nighstand.
My dad joked that I need to buy a Featherlite trailer. Now I want one.
Do you think Featherlite has any options in a David Hicks design on the exterior?

That nightstand is perfection. Great score.
I love the seagrass end table! I love digging around while on vacation too- Charleston is one of my favorite cities for that!
The Mid-Century dresser was the exact same one as my grandfather's.
I have it now along with the tall chest that goes with it. I can't believe you found another one!
You can always customize the exterior. I had a trailer a few years ago, but I sold it. I think it would be worth while to fill one up and sell the stuff inland. Then you could finance something you really wanted. You have little kids, right. You'd need a partner then. You buy it, have a friend sell it. Ann
Love your finds! I like to visit local thrift shops while traveling too. Which beach did you visit?
I'm curious about what re-sale shops you were going to. My parents live in Wilmington, near Wrigthsville Beach, but I've yet to find any great thrift/re-sale shops there. Do you mind sharing? Those Morroccan mirrors- I died.

Please get the trailer and revamp the exterior. Instant blog post!
Rachel- they were all in Oak Island, which is about an hour from Wilmington. They are all within a mile or so of each other. One was a Habitat Re-Store, but I am not sure about the names of the rest of them off the top of my head. If you google it, I bet you can find them!
Oh, boy. Field trip!
wow
I knew when I saw the title that this would be an amazing post. My absolute favorite shopping! Love it all!!
