Bittersweet

Nearly four years ago, MoS Washington and I were finishing law school and about to enter the legal/ business world. We found ourselves constantly emailing each other back and forth about interior design ideas, inspiration from other blogs, and our own attempts at DIY projects. At some point, we began talking about sharing our ideas on a blog. We toyed around with various concepts and different names but eventually decided on Matters of Style, as we both loved the allusion to Thomas Jefferson. We figured our moms and maybe a friend or two might read it, but even if no one else read, it would make us happy to share our style inspirations and experiences through Matters of Style.

Over the past nearly three years of writing MoS, spending countless hours reading shelter magazines, exploring other blogs, and interacting with our readers, our styles have evolved. It has been such a joy to share that process with you, our readers. MoS has truly been a collaboration between the two of us, a labor of love in sharing our successes as well as a few failures.

As we have written the blog together, MoS Washington and I have gone through a lot of changes in our personal lives, sharing many joys as well as a few sorrows. We interact daily (hourly?), often about MoS, but even more often about everything else. Several months ago, MoS Washington had a fantastic career opportunity, and she went for it. She knew it would demand a significant amount of her time, but she hoped she would still be able to stay involved in MoS. As it turns out, she does not have as much time to devote to MoS as she hoped.  She’ll still be joining us once a week or so, to bring us her fabulous insights and ideas.

This is a bittersweet time for MoS. I am so excited for MoS Washington’s career opportunities but will sincerely miss hearing her creative perspective, inspiration, and ideas. After all, she had the “scoop” on so many things before anyone else did. Such as campaign furniture.

MoS Washington, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work, effort, and creativity you have shared with us through MoS. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of working together with you and am so thankful for our special friendship.

And to our readers, thank you for hanging in there with us through these twists and turns. I’m planning to keep on sharing my ideas with you through the blog, especially as they relate to my design work. I look forward to many more years of MoS!
