One thing is for sure- spending excessive amounts of money on decorating a house does NOT guarantee a good end result. Christina Aguilera's Beverly Hills house that she recently listed for $13,500,000 is a prime example of that. I cannot imagine what she spent on the interiors of the house, but I would bet it is well into a 7-figure number.
The exterior of her house is pretty. Classic Spanish style with ivy-covered arches and manicured grounds. Based upon the outside of the house, I was hoping the inside would be so pretty in a California-chic way.

But once you enter those castle doors, all tastefulness and restraint is thrown out the (very fancy) window. Apparently Xtina really likes the color red. And "luxurious" fabrics.

The master bedroom...

These curtains look like Hefty trash bags to me.

She brings back the wallpaper border in the dining room. And the carousel horse.

In the abstract, these framed cherry blossom panels (de Gournay?) are perhaps the most redeeming quality of the house. But they are crammed on that wall with the fireplace and door, and I cannot figure out what is going on with that bookcase pushed in front of one of the lower panels. It is hard to believe that an interior designer would have made these recommendations.

This bathroom is the opposite of relaxing. I don't even notice the beautiful tub in such an overdone room.

Her dressing room looks like the set of Moulin Rouge.

The sofa could be cute on its own. The rug could be cute on its own. But thrown together in this room, complete with video arcade games, all beauty is lost.

This is definitely not a bedroom I could ever relax in. Too much is just too much. And did a stylist really place a big brass lamp on that garden stool?

Almost every room has individual elements that are good, but the way they are thrown together in such an over-the-top manner with absolutely no restraint whatsoever just ruins it. I can't wait to see who buys it!

Yikes- that's awful. Money doesn't buy class.
Too funny. This is not nice at all. Maybe she will start over with something else in her new house.
Ghastly, but she's from Pittsburgh what do you expect? I lived there for 20 years and it is still the land of ostentation.
OMG, what is going on in this house?! I think I would seriously have nightmares in that bedroom. It's all crazy! And I totally agree, some gorgeous pieces in each room but you can barely see them through all the other insanity. Would love to know who the designer was...
You know, the living room (with the white chesterfield) is totally salvagable-- I think it could be really beautiful with a few changes. Bue everything else-- so tacky.
I am still laughing over the "Hefty" trash bags....so true. The one thing I do like about the house is the exterior....beautiful!
Yowza! In many cases a bold rug color could have made a difference, like this it is just too much of everything. Some single pieces look nice, but in combination it is way too busy.
It's pretty telling that this house, which used to be owned by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, was better decorated when they lived there and not when Christina did! Yikes.
It is a modern day Graceland.
I think Donna from HGTV's Donna Decorates Dallas must have done this interior. I looks just like her style.
: )
That is frightening to say the least!
That is horrid! Someone needs to give her direction...
When you can afford the best decorator that money can buy, why would you NOT call up Michael Smith? or Kelly Wearstler...or SOMEBODY!!!! Good grief! Maybe they will have a big sale for all the interior stuff....there are a few things I would definitely like to take home...but lots of that stuff is going on the trash pile! Sorry!
Money cannot buy good taste.. restraint is an art form!! You hit the nail on this head with this post, this is a prime example of some of the awful design seen on the Reality shows that display very rich housewives.Who were the designers, they should be ashamed. Great post!!!
I wonder who she paid to do that? It's in such poor taste -so gaudy and classless! Sadly, I'm sure she'll sell it to someone who thinks it's fab!

I definitely liked the house decor better when Sharon and Ozzie lived there!
Bless her heart.

I agree with everything you said. Some of the pieces used in each room were great but every room felt way to cluttered. I felt like I was looking at a kids playhouse rather than a single mom's home. Hopefully her next house will be more tasteful.
