It's the Little Things, Part II: Decorating with Plants

Last week I kicked off a mini series of little, low cost projects that can have a big impact around the house. While my wallpapered entryway project was basically free, today's tip might require a purchase- however, it's definitely one with a large return. I recently trekked out to Ikea to pick up a couple of their tall tree-like plants. Ikea plants are a fraction of the price of those at your local nursery or even Home Depot. I got 3 huge plants and each was only $19. Hard to beat! I stuck one in my dining nook, which I have never quite loved, and I swear it brought the whole space to life. But you don't have to take my word for it...both Meg Braff and Celerie Kemble are experts at mixing plants into their design schemes. Here's a few favorites from them, and others, below. Meg Braff- the tree balances the oversized starburst mirror.

Celerie Kemble-palms and orchids complete the old Florida look.

Bonus points if your palm is gold!

The tree helps bring the outdoors in.

Adds a little life to a stark color palate.

More Meg Braff- Ikea has trees similar to this for only $19. They have a great topiary effect.

And of course, palms breathe new life into a dining area.

Even a smaller plant will pack a huge punch.

Plants are a great way to bring a room to life, and with the right TLC they're a little investment that can last for a long while. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
