The Tray that Got Away from Haymarket Designs...

One of our favorite parts of blogging is the opportunity to get to know and support other creative small businesses.  Through giveaways and blog posts, we can help these small companies reach our blog audience and give our readers something new to enjoy!  We would never want to use this blog as a place to gripe and complain or to air our dirty laundry.  But when we have highly recommended a company on Matters of Style, and that company doesn't honor its promises to our readers, we think we should inform our readers of the situation.

MoS Washington purchased (at full price) a tray from Haymarket Designs earlier this year.  She was happy with her purchase, so Haymarket offered to do a giveaway on Matters of Style.  We had 149 entries to the giveaway, and we know that Haymarket had numerous purchases resulting from the giveaway (and I am sure there are many more purchases that we don't even know about).  When we contacted them with the winner's information, they never responded.  We have since contacted them numerous times, and they have not responded to us at all and have never sent the winner her tray.

At first, we gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe their business was hurting, or perhaps they were disorganized, or maybe they were sick.  But we have recently continued to see Haymarket appearing on other blogs and in magazines, and continued to receive emails from them notifying us of new products.  Yet despite our repeated (polite) requests, they refuse to honor the commitment they made to us when they offered to do a giveaway on Matters of Style.  This causes us to question their integrity, and as such, we are so disappointed to say that we would not recommend Haymarket Designs to our readers.

We hope that our readers have had good experiences with Haymarket, since we did recommend them so highly.  MoS Washington continues to be happy with her tray.  However, we firmly believe that honest business practices and integrity are just as important as a good product, and as such, we are truly saddened to write this blog post.

Bravo! Y'all were much more patient and diplomatic than I'da been. Now, onto more pressing matters: where can I get the same pair of turquoise dangle earrings sitting on the tray?

That is awful!!! What terrible business practices. I started following them on facebook b/c of your give away... I am going to unfollow them now. Thank you for letting all of your readers know.

Wow. I cannot believe they did not honor their giveaway or even respond to you. I would have a hard time ordering anything from them knowing that as I would much rather support a company who values its customers and supporters. You all handled it very diplomatically though.

Oh my, and here I was going to place an order for their Greek Key duvet sets. After this, I am definitely staying far, far away. So unethical and such bad customer service!

I too will be removing them from my pages. Thanks for the (tactful)candor!

I recently had a HORRIBLE experience with Haymarket Designs. I was sent the wrong trays with the wrong monograms and received no communication when trying to address the problem. Thanks to the Richmond Small Business Bureau we were able to straighten it out, but it was the worst retail experience I've ever encountered. I DO NOT recommend Haymarket to anyone. I'm so glad others are being made aware of the unprofessionalism and poor business ethics that Haymarket Designs delivers.

So disappointing when professional relationships aren't honored- but it looks like they're only hurting themselves!

Thank you for these posts - I wish I had seen them before I ordered from Haymarket. Half of my order came in but they continue to refuse to return my emails or calls about the rest of the order - which I am still waiting on two months after ordering. I plan to dispute the charges with my credit card company and tell everyone I know not to use them!!

I have experienced a similar problem ordered a monogrammed tray last November. Still no tray, and no response to my e-mails. Terrible customer service!

I too am having a problem with Haymarket designs! I order a tray in January and still haven't received anything. They haven't responded to my 3 emails and 3 voicemails. Stay away!

My daughter ordered their personalized towels for bridesmaid gifts. We spend HUNDREDS of dollars on them. They just arrived (much later than promised) and they are paper thin. Seven of them fit in a box about the size of a shoe box for a pair of women's boots. I think I'll be contacting VISA to report them.

BEWARE of Haymarket Designs! This is the third (and worst and final) bad experience I have had with them. I ordered a monogrammed koozie as a gift and never received it and never got a response from them until I threatened to contact the Better Business Bureau. I finally did contact the BBB, at which point it still took 2 weeks to get a refund. Just glad I didn't order something more expensive. It's too bad they have awful customer service because they have cute things. Ugh!

Horrible customer service. I am waiting over a month for a simple iphone case. They said it was shipped two weeks ago. My follow ups...crickets. Perhpas public inquiries on facebook will get a response. I give them a week or i am contacting my cc company to dipsute the charge.

Just had to contact the BBB regarding my order. After 5 emails, no response and no order that was paid for almost 2 montsh ago, what more could I do. They also delete "dissatisfoed customer" posts on Facebook.

I had the same issue with a tray. I twitter and facebook bombed them, paypal disputed them. Finally, they refunded me because they knew I would not shut up or let it go. File a complaint with the internet crimes commission at ic3.com. I did finally get a refund. FRAUD!!!

BBB just closed my complaint because, after 10 weeks, Haymarket will only send my iPhone case (which I already replaced) rather than issue a credit. How do companies like this stay in business? Hopefully my bank will credit me for the never received order. I am facebbok and tweeting but they delete anything I say. Good PR!
