Georgia [Avenue] On My Mind

While we're on the subject of great finds, I thought I'd report back on a few things I've gotten lately at my favorite thrift store in DC- Georgia Avenue. There aren't too many thrift stores in NW DC, so I find myself gravitating to this one because it's fairly close and the inventory turns over super fast. And no 45 minute trip to the 'burbs required...I just zip up to Military Road and over to GA Ave from there. Of course, as with all thrifts, sometimes I go in and find nothing and kick myself for making the trip. More often than not, however, I walk out feeling victorious. Case in point...

The other day I was looking for some bookends. I had looked online and just wasn't finding anything too exciting. But then I walked into Georgia Avenue and saw a pair of marble parrot bookends starting right at me. $4 and change. SOLD.

A couple of week ago I scooped up these heavy, tall brass palm tree candle sticks for again, $4 and change. Pardon the post-Sunday night dinner party photo! (And I can't take credit for that cake, a friend made it and it was oh so delicious!).

The same day I got my parrot bookends I also took a harder look than usual at the book selection. Usually I don't spend too much time looking at the books; after all one can only have so many discarded copies of the latest John Grisham or the Da Vinci Code. But lo and behold, I found something a LOT more interesting this time...

First had me at hello. More to come from this treasure another day.

And this isn't a new find, but a while back I got this oversized Revere bowl there and stuck a plant in it. It's become the focal point of my coffee table for a couple of years now.

Needless to say, Georgia is always on my mind these days!

is it georgia avenue that has the two massive thrift shops, side by side? it's just above the beltway, and right before you get to 95 if you're coming from silver spring.

i took my nephew down there and thank god we had the station wagon. we found a ton of stuff including some great prints. baltimore's cheaper, but there's so much at this place.
