Affordable Custom X Benches

For quite a while I have been on the hunt for a pair of x-benches to go at the foot of my bed.  I would have loved a vintage pair, but unfortunately because it is so rare to find a vintage pair in good condition, they were all priced out of my league.  I shopped around online looking for different versions, some with wooden legs or metal legs, but I really preferred the look of upholstered legs, especially for a bedroom.  So I decided to give Ballard Designs a shot.

Their x-bench is the perfect size to meet my needs, and the best part is that you can have them custom upholster it in your own material.  So you just pay the base price and mail them your fabric per their guidelines and specifications.  I decided to upholster it in my bedroom curtain fabric.

It was only a couple of weeks before two BIG boxes arrived at my back door.

The benches were here!

The benches were boxed up securely and wrapped in plastic.  They arrived in perfect condition (so clearly they didn't use USPS).

Little man tried them out for comfort, and he approved.

They really turned out great.  The welting looks good, and they matched the difficult-to-match patterns perfectly on both benches.

They are just the right size for the foot of my bed (it's a queen).

They are much greener in real life than they read in these pictures.

Are they as fabulous as a vintage pair would be?  Probably not.  But so far so good.  You can't beat them for the price.  I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

So now I am one step closer to finishing my bedroom.  I still have a ways to go.  One of these days maybe I will share it with you, if it ever gets done!

And no, Ballard didn't throw me a bone for this blog post!

I always wondered how the Ballard Design upholstery was! Nice to know you gave it a try! Here in Atlanta there are 2 of their "outlets" but it can be hit or miss.

I had my carpenter build me two x bench frames ($75 each). Then i took it to an upholsterer ($125 each, 3yds fabric from etsy $50). Same look again at a fraction of the cost and got exactly the size i wanted!!

Do you have any other furniture from Ballard? I've always been curious about the quality, particularly the sofas and chairs.

So glad to see you had a good experience with Ballard Designs. I just ordered two upholstered desk chairs from them - my first experience with furniture from them. Now I'm eagerly awaiting delivery!
