MoS Reader Projects Before and After: Stencilled Walls Done Right

We just love this dining room project from reader Heather!  She wanted to add interest to her dining room walls but didn't want to splurge on expensive wallpaper.  For a total of $15 (literally 5% of what she had planned to spend on wallpaper), she gave her room a fantastic update by stenciling a pattern on her dining room walls!  Yes, it took a lot of patience, precision, and hard work.  But if she ever gets tired of it, she can just paint over it.  And the price was right!

Dining Room Before:

Heather used fabric she loved to create a stencil herself.  She scaled it perfectly (wow!) and then used the stencil to mark the pattern all over her walls with a standard pencil.  She recommends starting on one side of the wall and moving horizontally across it, as opposed to going vertically.  She then used white paint pens to trace over the pencil on the wall.

Halfway there!  Heather estimates that she spent between 12-15 hours on the entire project.  She would do a little bit each night after work, so it wasn't so overwhelming.

And the big reveal!  Isn't it amazing?!  It adds such depth and interest to her walls.  And to think she spent around $15 (and some time) on the walls.

She also notes that she was able to purchase the 4 botanical prints and have them custom-framed and matted for $75 total.  Great work, Heather!
