MoS Reader Before and After Projects: A Bachelor Pad Makeover

Reader Megan shared a situation with us that is all to common...  making over the bachelor pad!  Her husband owned a condo before they got married, so after the big day, she was faced with the (daunting) task of moving into the bachelor pad, adding her touch, and making it their home.

Before Megan worked her magic, the walls were a blah eggshell, a puffy red "marshmallow recliner" took center stage in the room, and they were forced to lounge on his great Aunt Edna's veerrrrry old sofa.

Before:  You don't even notice the pretty fireplace because of everything else going on in the photo!

Before:  Miniblinds, valances, and a grandfather clock...

Before:  The puffy red marshmallow chair!

Before:  Great Aunt Edna's sofa, "spruced up" with some red pillows to match the marshmallow chair...

So Miss Megan came in and really transformed the "bachelor pad" and made it into a lovely home they can enjoy together!  She painted the walls a warm beige and recovered a pair of chairs with trellis fabric.  Isn't it amazing how you suddenly notice the detail on the fireplace molding?

She replaced great Aunt Edna's sofa with a more comfortable 3-cushion version in a neutral hue, perfect for creating a backdrop for fun throw pillows.

She placed an antique china cabinet that she inherited in the dining room and filled it with their wedding china as well as some vintage milkglass.

A new crystal chandelier dresses up the dining room!  Megan is currently having curtains made for her dining room- they will add so much to the space!

And last but not least, the tv...  They splurged on a shelving unit, and it was well worth the investment.  Not only does it hold the tv (and camouflage all the cables and boxes you don't want to see), but Megan uses the other shelves for displaying her books and accessories.  The shelves really make their family room comfortable and personal!

Thanks to Megan for sharing her beautiful home with us!
