Certainly simple, unadorned drum shades have taken centerstage in recent years. My house is full of them. They are an easy and inexpensive way to modernize a lamp and are easily attainable at all of the big box stores like Target, Ikea, etc. But recently I've found myself drawn to beautiful pleated shades. While pleated lampshades are such a small detail, they add instant softness, warmth, and sophistication to a room.
I recently switched the basic drum shades on my Juliska lamps for a pair of pleated shades. I love the softening effect of pleated shades in my traditional living room.
I really think the pleats are a good match for the lamps, adding warmth and sophistication.
While pleated shades may not be commonplace today, they have been used in classic, beautiful spaces for years.

I am sure that many of you are wary of pleats, and rightfully so. Bad pleated shades can look really really bad. But I do think that they can add sophistication to a room, when done correctly. So are you feeling the pleats? Do you think they can work with traditional elements in a modern room?

I love yours (and some of the others, too!) Gotta get the picture of a bad hotel shade out of my mind when I hear "pleated shade."
Beautiful post (LOVE that Miles Redd room!). Nice pleated lampshades are lovely and timeless. My mom has always used them in their home, and you're right--they add softness to a room. Yours is so pretty!
The pleated shades are gorgeous - as is the juliska lamp!! What a softness the pleats brought -
Those shades look gorgeous on your juliska lamps! I do think pleated shades can look very dated in a heavier, more ornate room, but not when you use them in a fresh, updated space like yours. Beautiful!
Pleated shades can be lovely, for sure. I just can't help thinking of them as dust catchers!
Anthropologie has some beautiful pleated shades in their stores right now.
I'm a fan of pleated shades with a more modern base. They compliment each other. You have some great pictures here. I love the picture of the wall of antiqued mirrors and ikat curtains. Thanks for sharing.
