My Latest Find: Pair of Black Lacquered Ming End Tables

With a 15-month old and another baby on the way, the glass-topped brass end table in my family room has been making me a little nervous.  Don't get me wrong- I love the brass table.  It has a fabulous squared-off base that is chic and modern.  But one of my good friends put her arm through a glass-topped table when she was a little girl, and that story has haunted me from the moment I heard it.  While I haven't actively been searching for a replacement, I've been keeping my eyes open for something less potentially treacherous.

Earlier this week I stumbled upon a pair of these black lacquered ming tables.  The price was right, so I grabbed them!

Before, I used the glass-topped brass table on one end of the sofa.  Prior to having children, I always said I would leave my pretty things out and teach my little ones not to play with them.  RIGHT.  Maybe that works with little girls, but my little boy is into everything and moves faster than the speed of lightning.  So this table has been lampless and Herend-less for several months now.

On the other end was a white faux bamboo table that I love.  I am not tired of it, so I'll definitely use it elsewhere in my house, maybe in a bedroom.

I decided to switch out both the brass table and the white faux bamboo for the pair of black lacquered ming tables.  Admittedly, I was feeling a little nervous about adding another "pair" to my room, as the room alraedy contains two pairs of chairs and a pair of lamps.  But I am actually loving the symmetry provided by the pair of my new black lacquered ming tables on either end of the sofa.

Aren't the lines of the table great?

The lacquered finish is perfect too!

They remind me so much of the coffee table in this gorgeous room:

Would you guess they were $20 each?

Love them! Couch is so cute too. I don't know if I 'taught' my 2 year old well or if he is just naturally not so destructive, but I've been pretty lucky so far. But yeah, I have nothing on my coffee tables and I always frantically 'style' them before any guests come over at night. :-)

You are KILLING ME with this INCREDIBLE LUCK!!!! Adore those tables and that sofa is FANTASTIC!
Great job!!! And love the lamp on the sofa's right side...not the one where the side Herend's used to be.

Great find for sure and I like the symmetry now. And happy that no longer have to worry anymore about your little boy putting his arm through the old one...scary!

Great job. I hate to tell you it might be a while until you can have all your breakables out. My teen aged son and his friend were tossing a ball in the house (big NO NO) and broke some crystal decanters. Ugh!
Your tables are elegant!

Love the black lacquer tables--and even more, the sofa in the ikat print. I recognize it as KHANDAR in Jewel, carried at the Calico Corners and Calico Home stores. Looks great on a sofa where you really can see the large-scale design!
