I recently acquired a roll of this fun ikat wallpaper in brown, green, and white. The only problem- one roll doesn't go very far, and the colors don't really match the rest of my apartment. But I was determined to put this awesome wallpaper to good use in another way- it just required some out-of-the-box thinking.
Then a lightbulb went off- I have been meaning to paper the drawers of my campaign dresser since it got its makeover almost a year ago. And the traditional "drawer liners" at the Container Store and Ace Hardware are all quite boring and fug. So why not use wallpaper instead...so that every time I reach for a tee shirt I catch a glimpse of something pretty? Pardon my woefully unstyled dresser...my bedroom has gotten short shift in my unpacking/redecorating efforts.
This is probably one of the easiest DIY projects out there- it takes no more than scissors, a ruler, wallpaper, and a roll of mounting tape. You can do it while you watch the Real Housewives one night!
First I carefully measured my drawer. Next I drew the appropriate cutting lines on the back of my wallpaper to ensure that I cut in a straight line...if you have a paper cutter it would come in handy! I cut out five identical rectangles of paper.
After emptying my drawers, I put a strip of double sided mounting tape on either side of the drawer...
And carefully laid the wallpaper/drawer liner over it. And the results- fantastic!
The best part of this project is you can use ANY type of wallpaper- since it's not on display, it doesn't have to match the rest of your room. So if there's a wallpaper you've been swooning over but can't use because it doesn't match your drapes, go ahead and use it to line your drawers!
