A recent thrift store find (see below) made me start thinking about chrome-framed furniture. You're not alone if you think it looks and sounds a bit cold and harsh. But when used in small doses, in the right room, chrome can be absolutely fabulous. Milo Baughman is largely responsible for using chrome in modern American furniture designs. His iconic chairs consisting of chrome frames paired with upholstered cushions are simple yet perfectly proportioned. They are extremely versatile and serve as well in a living room as they do around a dining room table. They work well in modern spaces, although we love seeing them in an otherwise traditional room, making the space fresh and chic.
Here are some fabulous rooms with chrome chairs:

I recently found a pair of these chairs at a local thrift store. Granted, they are in desperate need of reupholstery, and it is most likely they are reproductions, not original Milo Baughman designs. But I think some new cushions and camel-colored velvet upholstery will warm them up and make them perfectly versatile- I just need to find a place for them in my house (other than the attic)!
So what do you think? Do you (or would you) have a piece of chrome-framed furniture in your home, or is it too cold for your tastes?
