Making the Jump

My husband has had a Barbour jacket for as long as I can remember.  I have always liked it but never bought one myself, because I wasn't sure if I would wear such a casual style very often.  In September, to give the style a "trial run" and see if I would actually wear it before investing in a Barbour, I decided to buy the more economical JCrew version, shown here:

Barbour jackets were originally worn by the English hunting set, as they are warm but not bulky, and the waxed canvas outer layer resists water very well.

Recently, Barbour jackets have been popping up on stylish girls like Alexa Chung

and Olivia Palermo.

The classic Bedale is boxy and a bit large, so it looks best worn with skinny jeans or leggings.

The International style is a modern twist on the classic Barbour style, as it is belted and fitted, accented with shiny brass hardware.

Liberty of London partnered with Barbour to do a line of jackets lined in Liberty's fabulous flowery printed fabric.

So after wearing my JCrew waxed jacket all Fall, I am making the jump to put a Barbour jacket on my Christmas list.  Santa, are you reading this?

Do you have a Barbour jacket?  Happy Friday!

We all can not live with ours. We try to not wear them at the same time. Hope Santa is listening!

I'm a horse girl, so I've had one for years. I think they are awesome, and whats even better is that they are so 'in' right now. i love my quilted one, its perfect for fall and will never go out of style!

They are a great investment!!! I got my first Barbour for the stables (former horse girl) and I was hooked. I actually have a Bedale hanging on the back of my chair as I type this comment! xx

I look horrible in anything army colored. More like British red coats with the brass buttons for me.

I have that same JCrew jacket, and I wear it ALL the time!! I was concerned that the color would not work on me, but I totally love it. Love it with black tights (and an outfit of course ;))

You are going to love it!! I got a Barbour jacket when I was in England for a year of school, that was over 20 years ago! I still love the jacket and it looks fabulous!!

My husband got me a jacket like this from Banana Republic. I fell in love with it as soon as i saw it. Didn't realize what it was...so I'm glad I now know!

I bought a Barbour jacket for my dog and he rocks it (here he wearing it on my blog).

Of course, we live in Virginia horse country, so this is totally acceptable, even though my golden retriever will never go hunting.

Barbour jackets are great...that is if you are a man! I love everything you girls write about...everything...but this is my one time to be negative. Think about it....your husband has one. That is because they are masculine coats...don't get one, or if you do, only wear it hunting, riding, or to do yard work!

My husband has had one for years and I took the plunge about 2 years ago and got a Bedale. I absolutely love it and now I'm lusting after one of the quilted ones!

I bought a LL Bean version (also to "try it out" before taking the plunge). The LL Bean version, even in XS Petite, is still too bulky on my 5'2" frame...As much as I love the look, I will have to try on some more Barbour models before I buy one!
