Madewell Comes to Georgetown!

Madewell, the hipper little sister of J Crew, has recently opened a store in Georgetown- it's on Wisconsin Avenue right next to the Apple store. I have to say, unlike a lot of other chains I see come to Georgtown (I mean, the Ugg store? Ugh!), Madewell is a welcome addition to the neighborhood's retail offerings.

The first time I went to Madewell- one opened at Tyson's Corner a few years ago- I was less than impressed. It seemed to be selling jeans, t-shirts, and little else. But today, I think Madewell has finally hit its stride. There were a million things in the Georgetown store that I wanted to buy last night. Also, some of the prices at J Crew are getting a wee bit high for my liking, and in contrast, I was rather impressed by the reasonable prices at Madewell.

I found this pintucked panel dress to be totally adorable, and a steal at $128.

And the boheme dress would be great for your holiday parties! Festive without being over the top. Ignore how heinously they have it styled in the other pix on the website!

The quilted biker jacket- totally, totally cool. Ok, $495 is not exactly impulse purchase territory, but for a leather jacket these days, that's not a bad price. Any leather jacket at Saks or Neimans will be at least $750!

The seeing spots tank would be perfect under a classic black blazer! And to be clear...we're definitely not advocating to bring back the sweater tied around the waist trend!

I'd definitely recommend hitting up the Madewell store rather than shopping on their site. There are a lot of outside brands they sell in the store- for example, St James nautical striped tees. I also think their selection in the store is better- I saw a couple of darling items that definitely aren't on the website, including a to die for matte sequin dress.

And honestly, I think their clothes look better in person than they do online. They're a bit overstyled online, IMHO.

I saw that today on my way to Restoration Hardware -- cute storefront too! Agree with you re overstyling -- I'm never that excited for the catalog; but the store I'm excited to check it out.

Loved the post re the lucite trays btw -- great idea!

I don't buy much new, but I sure have a soft spot for Madewell! They had an incredible sale on their clogs last week in the tyson's store...over 75% off, wish I bought the tan pair! If you ladies want, stop by my blog to win a piece of my hand built pottery.
