We MoS Girls make no secret of our schoolgirl crushes on Joel McHale. My husband always gives me a hard time when Joel's on our tv every Thursday at 8 and Friday at 10, saying I laugh way more than I should at his jokes. Probably true. There are some things I knew I liked about Joel McHale- he played football on a national-championship-winning college team; he married his college sweetheart Sarah 14 years ago; they have two adorable little boys. Oh, and he is hilarious and cute. But seeing his Hollywood Hills home in the December InStyle made me like him (and his cute wife Sarah) even more. Sarah was a design assistant for Kelly Wearstler, and you can see her glamorous fingerprints all over their fabulous home (it's Elle Decor worthy- props to InStyle for getting the story)!
We love the wallpapered ceiling, gilded-everything, faux bamboo, and zebra cowhide in the McHale's chic living room! The coral sconces look familiar- Oly?
Admittedly the master bedroom is a little more masculine than what I would choose, but the shiny steel canopy frame with a white tufted upholstered headboard is fabulous. I don't think I could live with that skeleton desk chair though!
Sarah seems to share Kelly Wearstler's love of color. This sitting area is such a great example of using orange and brown in a way that is fresh and chic, as opposed to those bad Thanksgiving decorating specials on hgtv. It would blend perfectly with the inspiration board I put together here.
I painted baby boy's walls almost this exact color! This room is good inspiration for how I can turn his nursery into a big boy room when that day comes.
Sarah used upholstered chairs at the octagonal dining room table and installed roman shades behind traditional curtains. The twiggy chandelier is so unexpected and makes the room feel less formal.
Mixing styles to keep the dining room interesting, Sarah used modern woodsy wallpaper, an ornate lacquered buffet, a pair of formal lamps, and colorful modern art.
Oversized lamps float on a pair of delicate Saarinen end tables in Joel's office.
Orange looks so fresh when paired with white. And mounted horns to boot!
Aren't they just the cutest family? The little boys are named Eddie and Isaac.
Here's to a family in Hollywood staying nice and normal and seemingly down-to-earth! As my friend Betsy would say, "We'd totally be friends with them." Be sure to pick up this issue of InStyle when it hits stands on Friday. Great gift guides too- my favorite!
