Proud as a Peacock

Peacocks are often associated with luxury and magnificence.  Peacock feathers are so vivid and beautiful that sometimes it's hard to believe they exist in nature. The male peacocks are the pretty ones- the colorful plumage and flamboyant strut serve to woo the less showy brown and tan females.

Whether as literal as a feathered headband or as figurative as a paint color, peacocks are such a chic addition to fashion and home decor.
Take for instance, the brass peacock fireplace screen.

I'm sure all of our grandmothers have at least one of these.  But they can work in a modern space too!  I wouldn't use them in a room that is particularly formal or precious, but isn't it a glamorous touch in the room below?  It adds a necessary layer of "pretty" to this space.  (Be sure to check out Craigslist and eBay for them).

This purple wallpaper is a modern twist on the classic peacock feather.  It could be really fab in a modern space.

Although we don't love how Horchow styled this peacock sofa with an oushak and venetian mirror, in the right room (think hippie-chic NYC loft), this peacock sofa could be really cool.
Horchow Sofa, $3400

Everyone loves Wisteria's classic peacock mirror.  It is really a work of art (and priced like one too).

Or it's not quite as fab but so much cheaper and still cool Pier 1 stepchild...

The vivid colors and larger-than-life scale of this Matthew Williamson rug are positively fabulous.
The Rug Company, if you have to ask the price...

DwellStudio's yellow peacock bedding is so happy and chic, with nods to the Far East.

Isn't this Anthropology Peacock "Plumage" rug such a fun pop of color?  It reminds us of fireworks, and would be a great way to brighten up a bathroom.

Moving on to the closet...

These peacock wellies are sure to brighten up your mood on a rainy day.
Target, $25

Bedhead does peacock pajamas.

Lucite, peacock feathers, and a big sale, three of our favorite things combined into one fab bracelet!

And just listed for sale on MoS Marketplace...

An adorable vintage brass peacock

This little guy is so unique!

He is made of solid brass, from India, and adds the perfect bit of pizzazz to a bookshelf or end table.
Available for $28.  Email us at mattersofstyle@gmail.com to purchase.

Or this fantastic peacock ring dish.  It's made of solid brass, etched with a pretty peacock, painted with light green and pink enamel.

The back of the dish is brass.

Perfect to set beside a sink, on your nightstand, or to give as a gift!
Available for $18.  Email us at mattersofstyle@gmail.com to purchase.

And no post on peacocks would be complete without everyone's favorite peacock-tie-wearing page, Mr. Kenneth Parcell, who is one of the funniest guys on television today.
"I feel about as useless as a mom's college degree!"

Have a great day!

THANK YOU so so much for introducing me to the peacock fire screen. I absolutely LOVE it and I am pretty sure I'm going to get one for our living room.

I love the peacock dish! I also LOVE Kenneth. The mom's college degree quote cracks me up!

Global warming? Sorry, sir, that's just scientist talk. The same people who say my grandfather was a monkey. If that's true, why was he killed by a monkey?
