Making it to the beach in one piece

I'm headed for a quick trip to the beach this weekend and hoping to debut my new Trina Turk one piece swimsuit I picked up a few months ago. My new Trina aside, I honestly can't recall the last time I purchased a one piece swimsuit (other than a Speedo for swimming laps). I think it might have been middle school! For some reason, all these years I've considered one pieces the equivalent of "mom jeans"- definitely not for style-conscious teens and 20-somethings, for sure. To me, one pieces were safe, not particularly flattering, and always meant to be concealing.

However, this latest crop of one pieces on the market has me seriously reconsidering my preconceived notions of one-pieces. These styles aren't for those who play it safe or have something to hide! They're every bit as sexy as their two piece counterparts, and then some.

A few favorites....

I love the plunging V of this Trina Turk Elliptica One-Piece

The J Crew Plume Print Plunge Tank is a bit safe, but the bohemian-inspired print keeps it from being dowdy.

From the new Spanx swimwear line, the One Shoulder One Piece sports a playful ruffle.
This glamorous suit features stunning shoulder detailing and offers a sophisticated look. A breathable mesh compression liner flattens the tummy, smoothes the back and slims the waistline.

Fit Tip: To ensure your suit fits swimmingly, see our size chart. Swim sizes are unique so you'll typically wear one size larger than your pant size. Our one-piece suits are snug to put on, but comfortable once you're in!

I know you'd get funky tan lines with this Michael Kors Bound About Maillot Swimsuit, but wow...I love it!

The same idea as Michael Kors but a fraction of the price- the Xhilaration Monokini

Leave it to D&G to design a sexy one-piece swimsuit like this Halter Cutout Swimsuit. I'd skip the matching bag, though.

Can never have enough Milly, especially when it comes to this Acapulco printed swimsuit

Something about the style and color of this Old Navy Ruffled Swimsuit reminds me of  Bo Derek's iconic swimsuit in "10"

What about you- do you prefer a one piece or a two piece? Any particular styles you'll be sporting at the beach this summer?

Google "Karla Coletto"--her suits are (I think) all one-pieces and they are all stunning.

They're often at Anthro online but I've seen them at stores like Everything But Water.

I prefer a two piece...but i wear a one piece...my tummy is not flat enough to pull off the two piece right now...and i wear a one piece with a plunging neckline...just because it gives me a longer torso..I'm 5'4"...but it makes me look at least one inch taller.
