MoS Heads to Homegoods!

This weekend, one of my best friends came to visit from New York.  She has fabulous taste and of course has the best shopping in the world right at her fingertips.  However, she came to visit with one request:  a trip to Homegoods.  I hadn't been in a couple years, so we ventured out to Blakeney, and let's just say that we weren't disappointed at all!

Homegoods can certainly be overwhelming at first glance.  But if you sift through the tower of neon cachepots at the entrance or the racks of fake flower arrangements, there are some treasures.  Homegoods often has a fantastic selection of lamps for really low prices.  The shades are hit or miss (and you can't switch them around anymore), but when you spend $25 on a lamp, you can afford to replace the shade!

The key when you see something potentially cute is to take out of the Homegoods context and imagine it blended with older, meaningful items in your home.   And as with any other store, remember you don't want everything to come from Homegoods.  Limit yourself to an item or two per room.

Spotted at Homegoods this weekend...
Pair of shiny black urn lamps for $40 each

Stacked sea urchin lamps with linen shades for $25- wouldn't a pair be adorable on a console table?  We've seen similar ones here for alot more money!

White ceramic "rattan" lamps with turquoise shades

Gourd lamps in every color imaginable for $40 (yes, they are officially mainstream, not that we would turn down one from Chris S. if he ever offered....)

Lots of navy and white, nautical chic (although we'd lose the shimmery lampshade)

Black lacquered etagere for $199, perfect for adding some height (and chinoiserie style) to your room

Pair of shiny yellow lamps for $40 each, although we're thinking a whiter shade might be better.

Shiny black end table with stylish turned legs

Blue and white galore!  And I have to admit I truly cannot tell the difference between fancy blue and white versus Homegoods blue and white.  The large urn that was about 2.5 feet tall was $39.  Can you replicate this Carolyn Roehm look at Homegoods?  We think so!

Adorable umbrella holder on clearance for $20

Agate mounted on a stand- so pretty to go on top of a stack of books or even standing alone as in this Nate Berkus room

Could not resist this adorable orange elephant for $10!

Glossy foo dog bookends on clearance for $13

Large jade calligraphy brushes on clearance for $18

HUGE ginger jars on clearance for $50

We posted about our obsession with white lacquered mirrors here.  Of course Homegoods would have them for $50!

This pair of huge white ginger jars was on clearance for $39 each!

In the textile department, pair of red circle throw pillows for $25

Oversize houndstooth pillows for $13

Adorable green and white bamboo trellis bedding- $39 for queen duvet cover and shams.  This *may* have come home with me!  Doesn't it remind you of the Lulu DK Matouk Madison bedding, for $425 for the duvet cover alone?  They had it in chocolate brown too!

The cutest beach towels I have ever seen.  Very Trina Turk!

And last but not least, the deal of the day....  Spotted by my friend on the clearance rack for $15 each, these fabulous (and quite LARGE) orange foo dogs.
Imagine my surprise when I looked here, and found the EXACT SAME DOGS.  For $350.  Or here.  For $487.50.  They are IDENTICAL, right down to the Greek key trim at the base.   These came home with me too.

In case you don't believe me...
It was a good day at Homegoods!

I was just at HG yesterday and bought a fabulous lamp for $99. I've seen an almost identical one for almost $350 at Restoration Hardware. It is a little overwhelming, but you can find some deals.

HomeGoods can be so hit or miss but I agree that lately it has been great.

I'd say a great day but appreciate the tips about shopping there too! I admit, I tend to get a little overwhelmed at places like that and am challenged to figure out where/how these items that I must have can fit into current living spaces!

I honestly have never had a miss day at Home Goods! You have to spend some time digging around, but I always manage to find at least one great deal that I'm thrilled to take home. If only they had luggage racks for sea urchin lamps those would definitely be on my console table now!

I absolutely love homegoods. I find that the one in West Ashley, right outside of Charleston, SC is a really good one!

I haven't been in a few weeks, but you've definitely inspired me to go today. Thanks!

I'm heading to HG as soon as I get the chance. Yes you have to dig and cover your eyes at some of the hideous junk they have. Love those Blue & White jars! I just did a post today about them!

I have been to that exact Home Goods and it is always filled with goodies! My girlfriend decorated her living room for under $250 all with things from there - so great!

I need to be kept out of the HomeGoods lighting department. I love so many of their options!! But don't need them... hah. Damn! I hate when that happens. Love the umbrella stand and the white lacquer mirror!

Your orange foo dogs are pretty great too!

Too funny - my sister came to town last week and one of the first places we hit was HG at Blakeney. Maybe we passed each other in the aisle.

Loving the foo dogs!

You are so lucky! I've been looking for a pair of orange foo dogs for ages. I am running out to my local HG to see if they have these. Maybe I'll find some fabulous lamps too while I'm there.

Amazing finds. My local Home Goods is a bit out of the way so I tend to forget to go to it, but I must make a trip there tomorrow!

Hello orange elephant. And that bedding? Perfection!

Every time I see a post about Home Goods, I get green with envy - there isn't one anywhere around here.

I. Need. That. Umbrella. Stand!

I wish I had seen this sooner. I wonder if they carry the same sort of things across the country? And are the shopping gods going to bless me with one hiding at my little local store?

"Adorable umbrella holder on clearance for $20" Where was the umbrella stand seen? I am in love with it.
