Pendant Necklaces

When I got married, my mother-in-law gave me a gold, amethyst, and opal sunburst brooch that had belonged to my husband's grandmother (pictured above).  It is so meaningful and one of my favorite pieces of jewelry.  The brooch also has a loop on the back so you can wear it as a necklace.  After recently seeing my stylish friend Maryanne, the founder of innovative PR firm Kudos, wearing a long pendant necklace, I knew I wanted one too.

Longer necklaces are definitely making a comeback these days. Temple St. Clair is one of the most well-known designers of pendant necklaces.

Side note: When MoS really takes off, this Temple St. Clair bracelet will be mine:)

Cutie Taylor Swift rocks the pendant on a delicate gold chain.

Style maven and Lagerfeld muse Diane Kruger effortlessly wears a long pendant.

Cate Blanchett's chunky pendant makes a statement!

While I am planning to buy a simple thin gold chain to wear with my brooch, here are some beautiful pendant options:

Key pendants from Tiffany & Company are so pretty!  We love them, but as with all Tiffany fare they are definitely pricey. Undoubtedly you can find something comparable elsewhere for much less, like this Nordstrom brand key pendant (right) for $88!

We are the first to admit that a monogrammed slide on an omega necklace can look a bit dowdy.  But put it on a long (or short) gold chain, and you have something much more youthful! And don't be afraid to double up and pair it with another charm- it creates a very modern grouping.

This gold lotus flower pendant with a diamond in the center is just beautiful.

We are always drawn to things with a beachy coastal vibe, and this adorable seahorse pendant is no exception!  We love how unique the seahorse is- a nice change to the starfish and sand dollars you more commonly see.

Charm necklaces on a long pendant chain are so stylish.  We can imagine them equally on the pages of Lucky or on Mary Tyler Moore, with a turtleneck and plaid bell bottoms.

A good luck ladybug to wear around your neck!  This would be cute on its own as pictured, or with several other pendants as a charm necklace.

If your style is a little edgier, how about this winged amazon necklace?!

Bly Design is one of our favorite finds!  This agate pendant necklace is so hip and stylish!

Banana Republic is such a fabulous resource for fun, affordable jewelry.  I always get tons of compliments on the "statement necklaces" I have purchased there.  This pretty pendant is no exception!

For your cheap and chic pendant fix, how about this mermaid charm necklace from F21?

This owl pendant is just adorable!  I guess Kelly Bensimon isn't the only person who likes owl jewelry!

Do you have a pendant necklace?  Have you updated any of your old pendants/ charms by adding a long chain?

Good luck -- it's a lovely pendant/brooch. You have inspired me to pull out a few old charms and make a necklace for 2010. :) Happy New Year, gals!
