This summer, I posted here about the vintage chippendale-style bamboo chairs that I picked up at Miss Pixie's on 14th Street. I had searched high and low for chairs like in the Washington area...let's just say I don't think too many people in this area share my affinity for regency-inspired bamboo!
The only problem....Miss Pixie's only had three of these chairs! A very odd number indeed. I deliberated for a few days whether to even buy them due to the lack of a 4th chair, and finally decided to just go for it.
The cushion transformation...
All of this was months ago and I'd pretty much resigned myself to having three chairs for life. Fast forward to last weekend, when I wandered into a decidedly un-upscale thrift store in Northeast Washington on a whim. And what did I find starting down at me from the wall of chairs? One bamboo Chippendale style chair absolutely IDENTICAL to my other three! Sans cushion, but that's the least of my worries. And the price? A cool $9.99. As MoS Charlotte pointed out, I should have bought a lotto ticket afterwards because it was definitely my lucky day!
The side by side comparison...
Of course, nothing enters the house without a thorough inspection from PBB (below)...provided this chair meets with his approval, it is destined for a coat of paint and a custom cushion to fit right in with its brethren.
Why does it take photographing my apartment for the blog to notice most of my pictures are crooked?!
Anyway, the moral of the story would seem to be you NEVER know when and where that "one that got away" will turn up. Keep your eyes peeled, be open to stores off the beaten path, and who knowns, your lucky day could be just around the corner!
