Mums the Word

One of our favorite signs that Fall is approaching is the emergence of bright and cheery yellow chrysamthemums on front porches across town. We love the burst of color, and it makes us think that cooler days are ahead!
We love a pair of mums in planters on either side of the front door.
Though they come in many colors, yellow is our favorite.
Biltmore House While yellow may seem like a summer color, we absolutely love it for Fall! The bright yellow of these flowers is a fabulous inspiration for interiors!
How fun is this Kelly Wearstler designed room? We love the exaggerated retro chairs and the art above the fireplace! Kelly Wearstler Yellow is always a kitchen favorite! If you are bold, how about painting the cabinets like this? Looks stunning when paired with black and white accents! Apartment Therapy, via Black, White, and Yellow This headboard is beautiful. The modern elements in the room and punchy yellow fabric keep it from feeling too French and stuffy. From the Right Bank
If you are daring enough to put black walls in your bedroom, pair with a tufted yellow headboard and red accents! Living Etc- Desire to Inspire Yellow is such a warm and welcoming color in an entryway. We love the high ceilings and black-and-white checkered floor! Thad Hayes
This sunny spot is the perfect place for curling up with a good book! Better Homes & Gardens Yellow walls can be tricky in a bedroom. You don't want them so bright that they give you a headache when you wake up. But when done right, as they are here, they are so warm and inviting. We love the lantern chandelier as well, and the crispness of the white bedding paired with the yellow walls.
Robert Passal
Kelly Wearstler's tile work at the Viceroy. One day we will check it out in person...
Kelly Wearstler Viceroy And some more Viceroy... This room is one of our favorites, with the yellow and white trellis wallpaper and chinoiserie bed.
Kelly Wearstler Viceroy Jonathan Adler does a fabulous job (as always) pairing cheery yellow with kelly green and white! We love everything about this room, from the mirrored end tables to the pineapple lamp with rick-rack trim, to the roman shades with matching trim. No detail overlooked!
Jonathan Adler This room is so serene and soothing, yet not boring in the least.
Flickr- Patricia Gray Interiors While we dislike accent walls, we loved this framed wallpaper creating a backdrop behind the white sofa and floors. Check out Maison21 for a similar project!
Flickr- Patricia Gray We love the mixture of modern elements with the earthy coffee table in this room. The zigzag rug (Madeline W?) is fab, as is the art!

Yellow and gray is a gorgeous color combination! You wouldn't think a cool tone and a warm tone would work so well together, but they really balance each other out nicely.
EKB Interiors- Patricia Gray If your taste is more traditional, this room is for you! The furniture colors are rather muted and pleasant, but we love the punch of bright yellow on the ceiling panels! We will admit we aren't sure about that brick behind the bookcases though...
Decor Pad We think walking into this room is like a big bear hug. The yellow is perfectly warm and cozy. Perfect with red and white accents!
Country Living Country Living keeps getting better and better! Love the walls and the quilt, as well as the built-in cabinets.
Country Living This Coastal Living room is just beautiful! Yellow and white looks great in nearly any room, especially when it has so much natural light.
Coastal Living
One of our favorite bathrooms, we love the tent awning feel of the stripes and the ceiling!
Coastal Living Amanda Nisbet does it again with this cheery breakfast room! Love the banquette seating and the lucite chairs with the heavy round pedastal table.
Amanda Nisbet- Southern Accents
Melissa Rufty is not afraid of color, and we love her for that! Yellow, turquoise, red, and green- perfect!
Melissa Rufty
Love the yellow and white ikat chair- yes, ikat is all over the place, but we still love it!

Headband Highlights

Is it just us, or has this summer flown by? Just yesterday stores were peddling bathing suits and coverups, and this week it's on to corduroys, blazers, and jewel tones. Clothing and shoes aren't the only items that need to be swapped out seasonally...don't forget that these days headbands are a must-have accessory that have year round appeal. As much as I love my summer headbands (from, top to bottom, J. McLaughlin, Lilly Pulitzer, A Perfect Day in Paradise, and TJ Maxx), it's time for them to take a hiatus in favor of more seasonally-appropriate fare.
Below- a sampling of fall/winter appropriate headbands: extra wide tortoise headband from J Crew, black resin headband from J Crew, satin/feather headband from Forever 21, houndstooth headband from TJ Maxx, and skinny tortoise headband from J Crew.
Have you noticed that Gossip Girl has done for headbands what Sex and the City did for Manolo Blahnik? Headbands aren't just for schoolgirls anymore; today's fare is uber-sophisticated- a perfect way to add a sophisticated, whimsical touch to your favorite fall outfit. A few of our favorites:
Fancy Schmancy and we just LOVE it. MoS Charlotte first alerted me to the fact that feathered headbands were hot last fall, and they are back in full force for this fall. Jennifer Oullette Extra Wide Feather Headband
A less expensive, and equally stylish alternative to Jennifer Oullette- the J Crew Jeweled Feather Headband
If feathers aren't your bag, we love the slouchy bow on this J Crew Satin Bow Headband
More Feather Headbands from LovMely on Etsy. Isn't the peacock to die for? With those prices you can order the whole bunch of them!
CLASSIC - Almond Pheasant Feather Headband
We're a little obsessed with Etsy lately for just about anything- paintings, baby items, jewelry, bead supplies, and of course, headbands. How striking is this Pheasant Feather Headband from The Headband Shoppe? It could pass for being 10 times more expensvie than it really is! Such a statement. It reminds us of a toned down version of the fascinator headwear that is so popular in the UK.
For a little bit of retro glamour, try a sparkly headband like the ones below. Perfect for holiday parties, but equally lovely with jeans and a t-shirt.
Jennifer Oullette has captured the market on sophisticated headbands. Above, Extra-Wide Gemstone Headband.
We love how this multicolored Gemstone Headband from Jennifer Oulltette could add some sparkle to even a plain black dress.
ADRIANA Rhinestone Bow Headband
This Rhinestone Bow Headband from The Sleepy Albatross is a perfect example of art-deco flair.
When you want a trendy statement headband but don't feel like spending Barney's prices, just head to Forever 21. Yes, it's embarrassing to be the only person over 17 in the store, but it's worth the temporary awkwardness for the fab deals. Bead Embellished Headband, Forever 21
Ok, so when we were little our very favorite outfit was a Minnie Mouse dress- white bodice, red and white polka dot puffly sleeves and skirt, the works. So yes, we might get a little flack for saying we love this oversize satin bow headband, but we like to think we're just getting in touch with our inner child! Sherry Satin Bow Headband, Forever 21
Finally, no matter what the season or the occasion, you can never go wrong with classic headbands such as these beauties:
France <span class=
Gold Bit Headbands, France Luxe. Aren't the gold bits on these to die for???
We love how a classic tortoise headband gets a tough-luxe makeover with gold studs. Studded Headband, France Luxe
While the over-the-top Prada turbans of last season were a little much for us, we'd definitely go for one of these toned down versions. Silk Knot Turban, France Luxe
If you love the timeless quilted look of a Chanel handbag, then grab this Quilted Headband from Dominique Duval for a fraction of the price.
<span class=
Of course, we'd love to get our hands on the holy grail of headbands, the Ferragamo grosgrain version with a bow on the side. We can't find a single on online- maybe we'll have to venture to a Ferragamo store to track down one of these beauties.
Do you have any favorite headbands for fall? Any great resources we haven't covered above? Fill us in by leaving a comment!

Bon Voyage

Lots of folks seem to be taking advantage of low airfares and planning some trips for this Fall! Gone are the days where the only luggage option is your basic black wheelie (although that is still 90% of what you see at the airport). But why settle for boring black when there are so many fun options at a variety of price points?!
Rolling Suitcases
This black and white stripey zigzag pattern from Henri Bendel's is so fun! Bendel's has always been one of our favorite shops in NYC, especially for fun accessories and makeup! Henri Bendel Disturbed Stripe Wheelie, $595
For preppy chic, how adorable is this green and white rolling suitcase from Halsea?! We loved her line when we first saw it in Coastal Living- SoCal meets Kiawah meets Nantucket. Perfection!
For some dramatic style, leave it to DVF to make such a stylish leopard print wheelie. We have definitely seen her nylon luggage at TJ Maxx, but I don't think you will find something this cute there!Diane von Furstenberg Leopard Print Luggage, $1500
If pink is your favorite color, this pink rolling duffle from Bric's should fit the bill!
Delightful Duffles
For a fun pattern and good quality for the price, you cannot beat LeSportSac! We especially love the bags monogrammed! This zebra pattern is adorable.
LeSportSac Extra Large Weekender, $158
Another cutie from Halsea, we love this weekender with fun little sea creatures!
Halsea China Cove Weekender, $240
Kate Spade knows how to make basic black so cute, with shiny 14k gold-plated hardware and a sleek modern style. This looks like a perfect go-to bag.
Union Square Travel Opus, $298
The Burberry novacheck is a classic. Yes, it was a bit overexposed for a while, but all the "faux-vacheck" hype seems to have died down, and we know this pattern is here to stay. A MoS mom has used this duffle for years, and it still looks perfect!

This Prada duffle is the perfect bag for traveling. The size is great for a weekend, and this nylon really holds up well.

We love the weathered colors and vintage feel of this Gucci duffle. A MoS sister has the vintage suitcase version of this bag. We normally shy away from logos, but in this case, we will make an exception.

Like the Burberry novacheck, LV's monogram canvas is overexposed. But it has been around for so long that we know it has staying power and is a classic, regardless of what is coming down Canal Street. Louis Vuitton Keepall 60, $1275
Both of the MoS girls love their collapsible Longchamp totes! These are especially perfect for those trips where you plan to shop- just fold is up and tuck it in your suitcase on the way there, and then unfold and fill it up with your purchases for the trip home! The nylon does wear very well, even on MoS Charlotte's pink bag! Longchamp Le Pliage Expandable Duffle, $235
For the weekender version of your favorite "it" bag, we are loving this giant YSL Muse!
Yves Saint Laurent Muse Duffle Traditional Suitcases If you prefer a top-handle, traditional suitcase to the shoulder strap of a duffle, there are some adorable options!
This red nylon suitcase from Longchamp is the perfect size and is so cute for your weekend trips!

Longchamp Le Pliage Suitcase, $235
T.Anthony is quickly becoming one of our favorites! We love their classic styles and fun colors like purple and red!

T.Anthony Soft Packing Case, $455
We love the vintage feel of J.Crew's line of leather suitcases. This one reminds me exactly of the powder blue suitcase my mom carried when I was little. The price is steep for J.Crew, but I bet the quality is good. And if it's like everything else at J.Crew, it will go on sale eventually...
J.Crew Lugano Leather Suitcase, $1800
Goyard is definitely the gold-standard for luggage. Like Louis Vuitton, it has been around for over 100 years, and the quality is still fabulous. You can no longer purchase at Barneys online, but the next time you head into Barneys, make a quick left into the Goyard boutique and feast your eyes on the bags in a rainbow of colors! And of course, if you are going to splurge on a Goyard, add a monogram! Barneys
This cream colored oversize Balenciaga city bag is just gorgeous! The smaller handbag version of this bag was super trendy for a while, but we definitely think it is becoming a classic. We'd love to throw this bag in the back seat and ride away to a fun beachy weekend! Balenciaga Arena Weekender, $1695
This Louis Vuitton classic suitcase is stylish and functional. It is really well-made. It gets a little heavy since it doesn't have a shoulder strap, but if you have this bag, you should also have someone to carry it for you, right?!
Louis Vuitton Sirius 55, $1530
For the Gentleman...
You cannot beat the Orvis Battenkill bags for quality and functionality. The MoS husbands are fans of this line of luggage, from duffles to wallets to dopp kits. And Orvis happily makes any necessary repairs for free!
Orvis Battenkill Duffle, $225 Filson makes great quality mens' bags as well! They are rugged yet stylish and hold up very well. Think Robert Redford in Out of Africa. Mmmmm.
Tell us about your suitcase! Are you going on a trip this Fall?!
