MoS Note: We are proud to announce that MoS Charlotte is busy tending to her new bundle of joy, a beautiful boy who arrived on Sunday! He's a lucky baby to get to come home to this nursery that his chic mom decorated to the nines. Thank you to our stylish friend in Atlanta for lending a hand and providing today's post.
Thank you to the lovely MoS girls for asking me to be a guest blogger while MoS Charlotte is taking care of the newest addition! I was thrilled with the opportunity (yet slightly nervous to try to fill those shoes) to write for such a fabulous blog! It is definitely my top daily read.
The holiday season is certainly one of my favorite times of year. Of course, there are lots of reasons that I love it—decorating the house, the smell of a Frasier fir, getting together with friends and family and—holiday parties! Naturally, holiday parties mean party dresses.
Putting together outfits for holiday parties should be fun, not stressful, regardless of the type of event—office party, ornament swap with the girls or holiday cocktails with neighbors. Here are a few ideas that should work for any occasion.
Your office party is probably not the time to wear anything too avant garde. You want to look sophisticated and tailored.
This Ann Taylor dress would be great for a work-holiday event. You could even wear it from the office to an early evening party. The color is great for this time of year, and the style works for day or evening. Opaque black tights, patent leather heels and some fun black/gold dangly earrings finish off the look.
This simple black dress from Ann Taylor works for a dressier office party. The detail on the shoulders makes it more fun for holiday, but the classic lines keep it elegant.
Throw on this Tulle cape and a long strand of pearls for an added “kick!” (Tulle is one of my favorite brands—I always pick them up at Mitzi & Romano in my hometown of Atlanta).
Ornament swap with the girls:
Ornament exchanges are always fun during the holidays! It’s a wonderful way to catch up with girlfriends during the hectic season, and you leave with a new ornament (plus you get to pick one out for a friend) for your tree. Choose something comfy and cute for this occasion.
Pair this bright turtleneck sweater from the Gap with a navy corduroy skirt from J.Crew. Navy, gray or even dark plum tights would look great (maybe a pattern!?) with suede ballet flats and some fun gold jewelry. Stay warm with this jacket featured in MoS a while back!
Finally, the occasion that calls for really “dressing up!” A holiday cocktail party! Here’s where you can bring out the glitz and glam.
This Cynthia Steffe top & skirt from Bloomie’s is definitely glamorous! Here in Atlanta, we can get away with bare legs (usually!) this time of year. Pair this outfit with black satin peeptoes and gold chandelier earrings for a fun look. If it’s too chilly, choose black tights and satin pumps to stay warm. Stash your lip gloss in a hot pink clutch like this one from Melie Bianco for a pop of color.
This Ikat print dress from J.Crew might be a bit ubiquitous by the time New Year’s rolls around, but it sure is pretty! Add a stack of gold bangles, big “diamond” earrings, gold strappy heels and a clutch like this one to round out the look.
Shoshanna is another one of my favorite designers. (I especially love to pick up her dresses on SALE at Neiman’s Last Call here in town). Her dresses are always flattering, lady-like and fun!
How perfect is this one for the holidays?
This little red dress would look great with black heels and a great black statement bracelet like this one from Forever 21.
Red isn’t the only color that works this holiday season! You will stand out in this purple party dress, also by Shoshanna, available at http://www.shopbop.com/
Throw on a fun necklace like this one from Anthropologie, add a scarf, some red lip gloss and you are the belle of the ball!
Enjoy your holiday parties!
