We posted this bed a few weeks ago in our post on yellow rooms, and a reader asked us where to find this bed. We originally found the pic on From the Right Bank, and it is an antique, which makes it a little more difficult to track down.
Our first recommendation would be to look in your local antique stores, flea markets, etc. Focus on the lines and shape of the bed- you can always paint and reupholster. If you can't find anything there, there are some options online too (but keep in mind that shipping will likely add several hundred dollars to your purchase).
You will be searching for a "Louis XV French Bed," or even a "Rococo Bed" but you may want to use broader search terms like, "Upholstered French Bed" or even just "French Bed." We thought for sure Wisteria would have something similar, but alas, they do not.
Here are a couple options we found:
This bed is quite similar except that the headboard is not upholstered.
The lines of this bed are similar, but we aren't crazy about the colors or fabric. We would choose the bed above over this one if we were re-creating the Right Bank Room.
Ebay also has some good options, which would require a little additional work such as painting and reupholstering.
Or even something like this. You could easily paint it white and then have it upholstered. Not sure if this would be a DIY upholstery job. If you are really good you could probably add some batting and then cover with fabric of your choice. Then add piping (self-cording in the same fabric) around the edges. The ridges carved around the edges of the bed would make a good little "nook" for the piping. But, we aren't sure this is a DIY project we could handle ourselves! If you are really good at upholstery jobs, then go for it!
We hope that helps! Please do not hesitate to ask us about particular items we feature on Matters of Style! It is a good learning experience for us as well!
