Mantle Mania!

A mantle can be a beautiful focal point of any room! Whether you actually use your fireplace or not, they are so pretty and traditional and really ground a room. And while it may seem simple, sometimes it is a challenge to style a mantle in just the right way for your room. Here are some mantles that inspire us!

We are obsessed with this room! From the coral walls to the fabulous mirror, layered with a wreath, photos, and personal momentos, we just love it! Ruthie Sommers.

This room is so traditional, with oriental rugs, louis chairs, silver candlesticks, yet we love the contrasting modern art over the mantle. White House designer Michael Smith.

From Country Living. We just love this whole room. Notice also the built-in bookshelves lined with fabric.

Lovely Evita. This room is bold and daring. We love the contrast of the seemingly traditional portrait over the fireplace with the more fun elements in the room like the turquoise pouf and orange wing chair. Elle Decor.

This mantle is so simple, butt works with everything going on in the room. With the animal prints in the room, anything too ornate over the mantle would just be busy. This is perfect! Rod Mickley.

Eddie Ross's mantle in Domino is one of our favorites! From the shaded sconces to the antique white dishes, it is symmetrical and lovely. (Although we do have to question the mirror in the base of the fireplace- can you imagine sitting in a skirt in that room?!)

The art over this fireplace is not symmetrical at all, but it looks great and doesn't bother us in the least! We think this assymetry works especially because of the rigid symmetry of the pair of chairs, the stripes on the pillows, and the pair of bookcases flanking either side of the fireplace. We also like the grouping of 3 pieces over the mantle. Tobi Fairley.

This room is so peaceful and soothing. We love the huge oyster shell in the base of the fireplace. A beachy accent here or there is cute even in a non-beach house. We think they have done a perfect job of editing in this room. And we need a couple of poufs. Elle Decor

We're the first to admit that we aren't wild about sunflowers (especially not that awful Sunflowers perfume we loved in the 4th grade). But this room is just so fun! The colorful stripes, the pink and green chairs, it all is just happy and fun. And we love the simple fireplace with the single piece of art hung above. SCW Interiors.

This pretty little round mirror looks great above this mantle. We also love the added vase of hydrangeas, the books, and the unhung art. It's simple and pretty. Real Simple.

This art deco starburst mirror is so fab! We have all seen fireplaces shaped like this that look as though they belong in a Mexican restaurant or pizza parlor, but the way they have styled this room is beautiful (and doesn't make us hungry for tacos.) Michele Williams, courtesy of Delight by Design.

This was one of our very favorite rooms in Domino (RIP). The color combo just makes us happy, and we need those fuchsia bergere chairs! We love the oversize mirror over the mantle and the addition of the masks and vases layered on each side. Domino.

Once again, this symmetrical look really works and centers this room. We like the simplicity of this round mirror against the paneling. Maine Home & Design.

You can't go wrong with a large gilded gold mirror. Not only does it make the room feel larger, but the gold really warms up this otherwise cool room. You absolutely can mix grays and gold! Knightsbridge Hotel in London.

Since turquoise is one of our favorites, we cannot overlook this fabulous room in the Kips Bay Designer Showhouse. We love the oversize urn in the base of the fireplace, as well as the unique octagonal mirror. We aren't sure if those are animal horns or Jonathan Adler sculptures on each side of the mirror (we hope it is the latter), but it looks great!

Not for the faint of heart!!! It takes a daring person to paint a room black, but how fabulous does this look?! So pretty in a den or study. House Beautiful.

This antique stone fireplace is one of the prettiest we have ever seen. This room is styled just perfectly with the settee, salon-style art, and the large gold mirror over the fireplace. It looks comfortable and welcoming. Francois Halard.

We love this room from Elle Decor. The ornate gold mirror, the giraffe statue, the clean lines of the room accented with a gorgeous arrangement of peonies. It is perfectly edited.

How gorgeous is this chevron wood floor? The velvet bench in front of the fireplace is so pretty, and we love the mirror layered with smaller objects in front. Elle Decor.

Navy blue- one of our favorites! This definitely isn't for a traditional room, but it is so fun and young! We love the chinoiserie screen. Domino.

This room is so cozy! The shell fireplace is so unique, and we love the soothing color palette. Cottage Living.

We love the lime green accent color of this fireplace and its little carve-out between the bookshelves. The mirror with photographs totally works here and doesn't look sloppy in the least. We also love the orchids galore! Canadian House & Home.

This room is maybe a little plainer than typically suits our tastes, but we do like the grouping of black and white photos over the fireplace. We are the first to admit we aren't keen on hanging a big family photograph over a mantle, but we think this works. Better Homes & Gardens.

For something a little different, this piece of antique ironware is so pretty! We could see this working in a light and airy room. Bazaar Style. Which of these is your favorite? What is hanging over your mantle?

Great post! I love, love, love the Elle Decor room with the oyster bowl in the fireplace...and the cozy Cottage Living room makes me want to curl up with a book. We are lucky enough to have 2 fireplaces/mantles in our current rental...shotguns in NOLA are good for at least one fireplace! They are so fun to decorate.

Love today's post! We just moved into a new (well, new to us!) home and re-tiled our fireplace with black subway tile. I love the look, but am having trouble with the mantle. This post is so helpful. I particularly like Eddie Ross' mantle featured in Domino. Keep up the good work, ladies!

I love this post! I really like the room with the striped sofa - I would never think I'd like something like that, but it looks fantastic! Also love the turqouise in the Kips Bay Designer Showhouse.

You guys are so sweet! Thank you so much for all the kind words. We WISH we still had the apartment! And regarding the mirror, just as long as you're not Brittney, Lindsey, or Paris, you would have had no problem!
