MoS goes bargain hunting!

We at MoS love taking advantage of the resources that large cities have to offer in terms of bargain furniture shopping. Perhaps the best example of this is Craigslist. We love surfing Craigslist to see if there are any hidden treasures to be had. And usually there are! And no matter where you live, you can always check out Ebay for some great, unique deals on decor and furniture! More and more as we look through design magazines like Domino (RIP!) and Elle Decor, designers cite that they've picked up a fantastic, one of a kind piece on Ebay. Case in point: last year's Elle Decor feature on model Jessica Stam's East Village apartment. Since we can't possibly snap up every great bargain to be had on Ebay and Craigslist, we'll pass along our favorites to you!

Best of Craigslist- DC

Bamboo Mirror, $300

The price on this mirror is a little steep, so we'd probably try to negotiate it. It's great as-is painted glossy white, or would really pop if painted red or gold! Hang it above a console table in your entryway and accessorize with an orchid, and you've got a gorgeous chinoiseire-inspired setup.

Bamboo Chest, $400

This would be perfect as a dresser for a bedroom or even as a chest in a living room. We'd definitely give this guy a coat of glossy paint in white or black, and he'd be good to go!

China Cabinet, $450

We love the chippendale detailing within the glass panes and the classic styling of this china cabinet. A perfect place to feature all your fabulous china and serving pieces! For the ultimate DIY project and to really freshen it up, we'd paint it white and line the inside in beautiful wallpaper or fabric, but you could probably use it as-is once you used a little furniture polish on it. Ghost Chair by Philipe Starck, $225

We love ghost chairs, and here's a rare chance to get one on sale! Use it at your desk, as an accent chair in the living room, or just about anywhere!

Bamboo Bar Cart

We love this bamboo bar cart for $35. We'd paint it black or maybe even a fun red and add our favorite vintage silver barware. Perfect for that empty corner of your room!

Crystal Decanters We would add these vintage decanters to the bamboo bar cart. $20 for both!

Chest of Drawers How gorgeous is this art deco chest of drawers? For $50, we could find a place for it in any room!

Pair of Lucite Stools

Check out these fab lucite stools! It would be so easy to recover the seat in a cute fabric like Kelly Wearstler's Imperial Trellis (or is everyone tired of that?).

And the best part- they come in pairs! A set of two starting at just $40. Yes please.

Silver Toast Rack

How pretty would this silver toast rack be on your desk to sort your mail or stationary?! Sterling toast racks can be pretty expensive, so we can settle for silverplate on this one!

Faux Bamboo Chair, $79

We love this cheerful yellow chair and would use it to liven up an office. The cushion definitely needs a little TLC, but that's an easy fix.

Adding new fabric to the cushion (like something from Victoria Hagan's line for Pierre Frey) is a super-easy project and would transform this into a perfect occasional chair.

Federal Convex Mirror This federal convex mirror is a classic. Use it traditionally in your dining room (to keep an eye on the family silver of course!) or make it the focal point of a salon-style grouping with other art.

Sterling Ice Tongs

Ebay is the perfect place to find various pieces of silver, often for steals. How cute would these sterling ice tongs be in your pretty ice bucket on your bar cart?

The best part about Craigslist and Ebay is that every day brings a zillion new items. So if you don't see exactly what you're looking for today, tomorrow is always a brand new day. Happy hunting!
